Anti-Bullying Policies

Valley Middle School is committed to providing each student with a safe learning environment that is free of violence, discrimination, and bullying.  We are working hard to make sure that this message and behavior extends into our community and the homes of our students.  Each and every student that attends VMS has the right to be treated with respect by adults and peers alike.  They also have access to support from staff that cares about them and wants to help them in any way they can.

There are strict and consistent rules that have been put in place to ensure a safe and bully-free learning environment.  The following are expectations for all students at Valley Middle School:

-Definitions of behavior:

Teasing-  name-calling, insulting, harassing, or other behavior that hurts another person’s feelings, or causes them to feel badly.

Exclusion-  starting rumors, influencing others to not be friends with someone, or anything else that might cause another person to be left out of a group, or lose friends.

Hitting-  pushing, slapping, grabbing, or other touching behavior that would hurt someone or make them feel uncomfortable.

Severe Hitting-  punching, kicking, or anything that will cause bodily harm to another person.

Threatening of Violence-  making terroristic threats, threatening to hurt another person, or threatening damage of property.

Severe Harassment-  Religious, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, sexist, or sexual comments or name-calling towards another person, or other any other sever harassment.

In the case that any of the above listed infractions occur, the following behavior rubric will be used:
